You are cordially invited to a preview of the new works of contemporary artist M. Tony Peralta’s “Rolos & Icons” on display Thursday, October 29th through Wednesday, November 4th at 103 Allen Street in the Lower East Side. Rolos & Icons is a collection of screen-printed paintings of powerful and iconic Latin women throughout history – donning the hair rollers, or rolos in Spanish. The series is inspired by a piece M. Tony Peralta created in 2010 entitled,“Doña Con Rolos.” The series demonstrates Latina legends such as Frida Kahlo, Lynda Carter and even Dora the Explorer, with their hair styled in rollers, ready to go under a hair dryer. Peralta hopes these images will make these figures more relatable, and provide young women of color an opportunity to see themselves in these women.
